Madison Carly Wood

Madison Carly Wood of Sardis City Alabama moved from her earthly home to her eternal home on Monday, May 8th 2017, at the age of twenty one years old after a two year battle with cancer. Madison forever changed the lives of her parents, Shane and Gina Wood, on the glorious morning of June 29th 1995. She came into this world for one purpose, to show Jesus and His love to anyone and everyone she met. Madison received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on August 24th 2008, at the age of thirteen. While on her journey, she graduated Valedictorian of the class of 2013 from Sardis High School with many awards and accolades. She went on to the University of Alabama for her freshman year and there also changed lives and told others her story of her Jesus. That year, Madison felt the calling of Jesus more than ever to share His gospel with others. She left UA and transferred to Jacksonville State University so she could fulfill her calling to intern and work with the Northeast Alabama Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). And it was at that time, God’s glory would shine through Madison brighter and brighter each day. During Spring semester of 2015, Madison first found her tumor and later learned it was cancer. She started intense chemotherapy treatments at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, all the while touching lives and telling others about her Jesus while there. In December, she was declared cancer free and then started follow-up checkups every three months at M.D. Anderson. Madison, then enrolled at the University of Alabama at Huntsville (UAH) for the Fall 2016 semester to be closer to her work with FCA. On her follow-up visit of September 2016, Madison’s scans showed that the cancer had returned and it was back with a vengeance, but that did not slow her down. She knew she had to work harder than ever to share Jesus, and THAT she did. Cancer did not win. It made this warrior for Christ stronger. His light through Madison is shining brighter than ever. Hallelujah! Madison is survived by her parents, Shane and Gina Wood of Sardis. Grandmother Shirley “Joy” Wood of Attalla. Grandparents Dale and Sue Lynn Blackburn of Gadsden. Great-grandmother Verna Blackburn of Gadsden Chosen Grandmother Sherron Childress, Uncle Jeff Stephens (Kristy), Aunt Suzie Shirley (Garry), Aunt Kristi Dunn (David), a host of cousins, best friend Bethany Chamblee, her FCA family, her Unity Baptist Church family, and her fur babies; Diamond, Charger, Mater, Moose, and Stone. Waiting to greet Madison inside the gates, her Papa “Mack” (Jerry) Wood, Aunt Kim Stephens, Nanny “Myrtle” Ballard, and Daddy-O (Leo) Blackburn. Special Thanks to: Dr. Shreyaskumar Patel and the sarcoma team of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Evan Johnson, Dr. Gideon Ewing, and staff of Marshall Cancer Center. Mr. Dale Johnson and staff of Boaz Discount Drugs. Dr’s, Nurses and staff of The Camellia Pavilion of UAB. Etowah Memorial Chapel will be directing services. Officiating services will be Pastor Joe Wise, Brother Ken Burnett, and Brother Jason Hallmark. Pallbearers will be Garry “Boo” Shirley, Jagger Stephens, J.T. Childers, Ty Sanders, Tanner Greer, Hunter Greer, Riley Chambliss, Zach “Big Z” Burnett. Visitation will be Friday, May 12th from 4-8 P.M. at her home of 3132 Sardis Drive, Boaz AL, 35956. She will lie in state at Sardis High School Gym Saturday, May 13th from 9-11 A.M, and her Home-Going celebration will be at 11 A.M. and then a procession to Unity Baptist Church Cemetery for graveside services.
