Eugnia Vaughn Hammett

Eugenia Vaughn Hammett, 89 of Boaz was born September 21, 1935. She passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on January 16, 2025. She was surrounded by her family that loved and cherished her dearly and will continue to love her until they meet again in Heaven. To know Eugenia is to know a love that is calm and soothing. Her love was like no other. It was always unconditional, unbreakable, and everlasting. Eugenia was a graduate of Etowah High school class of 1952. She attended the university of Alabama & university of Auburn where she studied Adult education. At the age of 16, Eugenia married the love of her life, Mr. James Lewis Hammett, where they spent 54 years together. Eugenia and James built a beautiful life in Boaz, Alabama. Eugenia was a proud mother of six boys. She dedicated her life to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Eugenia had various hobbies. She loved to quilt, crochet, read, and garden. She always had quilt set up and loved teaching everyone how to quilt. At any given moment, you could find Eugenia lounging in her chair with a book in her hand immersed into the tale of whatever book she was reading. Eugenia had a green thumb like no other. When she would plant something into the soil of the Earth it would always blossom into something beautiful. Eugenia loved to sit with her grandchildren and tell stories of her childhood and pass on tales about family history. Eugenia loved the Lord and served him daily. Eugenia is proceeded in death by her parent(s) - Fred & Pauline Vaughn, sister - Betty Garrad, loving husband - James L. Hammett, grandchild - Shane Hammett, great grandchildren - Chance Hammett, Jaylen Hammett, Hanna Hogeland, and daughter-in-law - Barbara Hammett. She is survived by her loving sons, James “Jim” Hammett, Allen (Tina) Hammett, Darrell (Charlotte) Hammett, Randall (Sharry) Hammett, Paul (Martha) Hammett, Vaughn Hammett, and a host of (20) grandchildren, (39) great grandchildren, and (15) great- great grandchildren, sisters, Barbara (Connie) Entrekin, Glenda (Robert) Moxley, aunt, Willadean Parks. Funeral services will be held at Etowah Memorial Chapel located in Boaz, Alabama on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 2 p.m. Friends can visit from 12:30 until service time. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Egypt Community. Pastor Ray Garrard will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Eugenia’s grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Abundant Hope Church, 2065 Hwy. 179 Altoona, Al. 35952. Arrangements are entrusted to Etowah Memorial Chapel.
