Gary Steven McLeod

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Steven McLeod of Attalla, a dedicated veteran and beloved member of our community, who departed this world on October 16th, 2023. He was 73 years old. Gary was born on November 22nd, 1949, in Cave Springs, Georgia, and he grew up to be a man of honor and integrity. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years as a Vietnam Veteran from November 1969 to November 1972. During his service, he displayed unwavering commitment to his duty and earned the respect and admiration of his comrades. Gary's love for his nation was evident in his selfless sacrifice, and he will forever be remembered as a true patriot. Gary McLeod was not only a devoted soldier, but he was also a loving father, husband, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Works McLeod, and his children, Todd McLeod and wife, Donna McLeod, Kimberly McLeod Snell and husband Kendale Snell, Justin Beason and Angela Rakestraw. He adored his grandchildren, Kabrina and husband Matthew, Makayla and partner Michael, Coy Siddall, Rhonda McLeod, Hunter and Fiancé Brittney, Dylan Rakestraw, Candace and her family, and Andrew and his family. Gary's love and guidance extended to his great-grandchildren, including Shelbie, Aubrie, Nicholas, Parker, Matty J, Troy, Hudson, and Weston, Brothers and Sisters, Jimmy McLeod, Michael McLeod, Doris Freeman, Gail Harris, Joan Renyolds. They were a source of joy and pride for him, and his legacy will live on through them. He is now reunited with those who preceded him in death, including his mother, Alma Fanny Bell Toole McLeod, and his father, William Herbert McLeod, as well as his siblings Marvin McLeod, George McLeod, Jack McLeod, Roy McLeod, Edna Cranford, Barbara Nabors, Peggy Stanfield, and Louise Arrowood-Niper. Additionally, his beloved children Sherry Beason and Dustin Beason are now by his side. A Funeral service to celebrate the life of Gary Steve McLeod will be 11 am Friday, October 20th, 2023, at Etowah Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5 until 7 Thursday evening at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor this remarkable man who served his country with honor and loved his family with devotion. Sister Teresa Chapman will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Todd McLeod, Hunter McLeod, Kendale Snell, Matt Lester, Michael Smith, Coy Siddall, Honorary Pallbearer will be Dylan Rakestraw. Rest in peace, Gary Steve McLeod.
