Joan Howard Batson

Joan Howard Batson, age 85 was born August 15, 1937 and transitioned to Heaven on December 7, 2022. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Etowah Memorial Chapel, 12600 US 431, Sardis City, Al 35956. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Bro. David Humphrey and Bro. Thomas Laile officiating. Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Mom was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always checking on her friends and family, making meals, soup and special desserts for anyone needing some TLC. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was born to Tearl and Laura Howard on Wolf Creek Road in Pell City, Alabama. She had 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Mother was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Virginia Carnes, Helen Bullock, Carolyn Carnes and brother Milford Howard. She is survived by her husband Tommy Batson, Sr, children Tommy Batson, Jr. (Debbie), Cindy Batson Kirkland (Kenneth), Tim Batson (Sandra), and Terry Batson. Grandchildren are Daphne (David) Humphrey, Kristin (Tim) Lane, Brock (Crystal) Batson, Mallory (Dennis) Brewer, Josh Batson, Brooke Batson, Caleb Batson, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Mother spent her childhood growing up on Wolf Creek Road in Pell City, Alabama. She lived on a small family farm where they raised chickens, cows, pigs and gathered their own eggs. They often had two gardens and were always self-sufficient. She would tell us they never knew of the "Depression" because they had what they needed with their family farm. During High School she spent time with her Aunt Mable who owned a small grocery store in Pinson. Mother loved Aunt Mable and spoke of those times. She met our dad Tommy while living there and they both attended Tarrant City High School. They became inseparable sweethearts and married soon after he graduated. Dad says She was the prettiest girl he had ever seen. They had their 68th Wedding Anniversary on December 1st. Mother was very active in church all her life. Mom and Dad are members of Union Hill Methodist Church. Mother was a great example and a Shining Light to all who knew her. She was a prayer warrior, a peacemaker, and loved her family with all her heart. She loved Christmas and she will be greatly missed. Etowah Memorial Chapel Directing
