Rickey Battles

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Rickey Battles, 44, of Attalla passed away Friday, July 17th 2026. He is survived by his wife, Kristie Battles. He leaves behind his children: Chelsey Alverson (Dalton), Coleton Mashburn-Battles, Celeste Battles (Jacob), Cammy Battles (Eli), Mason Chapman, Carson Chapman, and Brooklynn Battles. He was a proud grandfather to Stella, Jaxon, Hendrix, Jacob, Nora, and Luca. He is also survived by his brothers: Richard Battles (Carolyn), Rudolph Battles, and Randy Battles. He was also survived by his former wife and mother of his oldest children, Mande Smothers Battles. In addition to his family by blood, he was loved by his chosen siblings: Harold, EL, Sassy, Zacharias, and Charity Chapman; his special chosen brother, John Haynes; his special uncle, Gerald Jordan; and his chosen mother, Teresa Chapman. Plus so many more chosen children, brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his mother, Janet Rebecca; his father, Edward James; Grandparents Mawmaw Marie and Rudolph Battles; his daughter, Chloe Battles; and his grandson, Achilles Reed. Owning and running his own auto-truck repair shop; the Auto Doctor since 2012, he was well known and loved within the community for always lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it, no matter what. He was the type of guy that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was the one everyone called for anything from advice, car trouble or just to talk. He was the life of the party, someone you always wanted around. Anyone that knew him could go on and on about how much he cared about the people he loved. You wouldn’t have to question if he’d do something, you just knew he would. The most loyal, funny and loving guy you could ever meet. Anyone that met him became a friend, some even family. You never had to doubt his love for you, it was just something you felt. He’s left such a big mark in this little town, just wish he knew how big. He will always be remembered for his love, his presence, and the way he always showed up for the people he cared about. His impact on those who knew and loved him will never be forgotten. His Funeral Service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Etowah Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends and extended family from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. before the service. He will be laid to rest at Deerman's Chapel Cemetery. Sister Teresa Chapman will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Eli Zurita, Dalton Alverson, Jacob Reed, Zacharias Chapman, El Chapman, James Bolding Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Haynes, Joey Bohannon, Martin Ponce, Micheal Christensen, Harold Chapman, Jared Chapman He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who knew him. Arrangements are entrusted to Etowah Memorial Chapel.
