Teresa Joan Barber

Teresa Cherry Barber October 28, 1956 – April 27, 2024 Teresa Cherry Barber of Oneonta, Alabama, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, peacefully passed away from this life on April 27, 2024, at the age of 67, at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice, after battling lung disease for many years. Her departure has left a profound void in the lives of all who knew her. Born on October 28, 1956, in Melvindale, Michigan, to Frank and Willowdean Cherry, Mrs. Barber resided in Calhoun County, Alabama, and attended Weaver High School, Class of 1975. She spent many years in Calhoun County, Alabama, before relocating to Blount County, Alabama, where she lived out her life as a homemaker. She was known for her compassionate heart and her unwavering loyalty in her faith to God, her family, children and church. Teresa had a remarkable ability to light up a room with her presence and make everyone feel valued and appreciated. She loved her children deeply and admired her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a rare gift for making everyone around her feel special and loved. Teresa wanted nothing more than for her loved ones to all have a personal relationship with the Lord, to be cared for and to live their lives abundantly. She was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear to whoever needed it, and to lift up and cover each of her family daily in prayer. Mrs. Barber is preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, Lotha Gale Barber of Oneonta, Alabama, and former husband David Lee Humphrey of Weaver, Alabama. Mrs. Barber is survived by: her sons Daniel (Lori) Humphrey, Matthew (Kelli) Barber, and daughter Cherri (Danny) Fountaine; twelve grandchildren: Dustin Scott (Chelsea) Humphrey, Lendi (Ryan) Roberts, Austin Humphrey, Kaylee Humphrey, Taylor Humphrey, Matthew Dylan Barber, Emberly-Rae Faith Barber, Cassidy Brielle Barber, Axel Creed Barber, Austin Fountaine, Jonathan Fountaine, Jacob Fountaine; three great grandchildren: Tailyn Humphrey, Carson Roberts, Lakynn Roberts; a host of siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Barber found strength in her faith, enjoyed raising and showing horses, and being active in her children’s lives. Though Teresa may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched during her time on this earth. In honoring Mrs. Barber’s memory, let us remember the joy she brought into our lives, the kindness she showed to others, the selflessness with which she lived her life, and her profound faith in God. May her legacy serve as a reminder of the importance of living life to the fullest and cherishing every moment with those we hold dear. Rest in peace our beloved mom. You will be deeply missed but your light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts and memories for all who knew you until the time we are reunited again to spend eternity with you and our Heavenly Father. Immediately following, the Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel beginning at 11:00 am, with Pastor Daniel Dewayne Powell officiating and Reverend Daniel Scott Humphrey as memorial speaker. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are her grandsons: Dustin Humphrey, Austin Humphrey, Dylan Barber, Austin Fountaine, Jonathan Fountaine, and Jacob Fountaine. The family has reserved a private graveside service and burial to follow at a later date. The family would like to send a special thank you to all of the staff, nurses, aides, and caregivers of Enhabit Hospice and Shepherd’s Cove Hospice and Foundation.
