David Talton
September 26, 1952 - January 28, 2022
David Allen Talton, 69, born September 26,1952, of Sand Valley, Alabama gained his wings at home surrounded by family on January 28, 2022.David grew up loving his family (especially his momma), traveling, fast cars, guns and Winstons. He accepted Christ as his Savior when he was only 9 years old. At 12 he saved his baby brother’s life by carrying him atop his shoulders across a swampy field. He was bitten by a copperhead and made a full recovery after a few days in the hospital. At the age of 15 he lost an eye to bottle rockets, but that didn't keep him from becoming one of the best shooters in the county. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. He graduated from Etowah High School in1970 and furthered his education for the next 3 years at Alabama Tech School becoming a GMTroubleshooter. He was married for several years and, unfortunately, lost his only child after a short fifteen days of life. He was the proud owner and operator of Talton's Trading post, a small service station ran out of the front of his home. Often, he gave more than he sold. Never boastful, he helped provide food for many families over the years. He loved fresh produce almost as much as venison. He would always deliver these foods to friendly, local store cashiers and friends. On occasion, Cothran's Donuts would be delivered. He showed a hard exterior but on the inside was a soft center. He had a heart of gold. David’s happy place was in the woods, surrounded by trees and wildlife. He was a well-known logger and an avid deer hunter and always had an unbelievable story to tell about his logging and hunting days. Sawdust and gunpowder were in his blood. Logging was what he lived and breathed. He could glance at a tree and tell you anything about it - the height and weight of the entire tree or by the sections he would cut, where it would land and how many cuts it would take. He could look at a loaded log truck and tell you prices for it all. That was one of his many talents. I won't tell you about how good he was at math. He’d rather talk than listen. He lived a simple life. He was loved by family members and many friends. He always depended on his sister for haircuts, clean clothes, and a good meal. During the past eight years, his leukemia and cancer rarely slowed him down. Throughout his life he fought to live life to the fullest and he did. He lived an amazing adventure that ended too soon. David was preceded in death by his parents, Ottis and Mary Frances Talton, and infant daughter, Davina Ann Talton. Survived by siblings, Steve (Karen) Talton and Joy Fulmer, Aunt Shirley Tarvin, Uncle Bob (Judy) Talton, a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins and loving friends.
