George Dale Hedgepeth

George Dale Hedgepeth 82, most recently of Petersburg, Michigan passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 1, 2019 with family by his side. Dale, as he was known by his family, was born October 9, 1937 to the late Elmer Otis and Zelma Irene (McCartney) Hedgepeth in Boaz, Alabama. Dale was the youngest child of five and the only son. On July 26, 1966, he married the love of his life, Faye Lawley. Dale is survived by his wife of 53 years; two children, George of Flint, Michigan and Mary (Paul) Eldredge of Tecumseh, Michigan; and two grandchildren, James and Caroline Eldredge. He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara (Ernest) Stamey of Ringgold, Georgia and Gail Bartlett of Sardis City, Alabama and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and close friends Bob Batey (Lapeer, Michigan), Jack Frye (Flint, Michigan) and Kenneth Teske (Perry Co., Alabama). Dale was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Virginia Faye Woodward (Ohatchee, Alabama), Frances Ann Griffin (Sardis City, Alabama); his mother and father in-law David and Mary Lawley (Greenpond, Alabama); brothers in-law Jerry Lawley (Woodstock, Alabama), Dan Lawley (Greedpond, Alabama), TE Bartlett (Sardis City, Alabama), Evan “Lefty” Scott (Sardis City, Alabama), AB Bonds (Ohatchee, Alabama), JB Woodward (Anniston, Alabama), Milford Griffin (Sardis City, Alabama) and many other in-laws, nephews and close friends. Dale was a proud member of UAW Local 598 as a skilled trades pipefitter for the GM Truck and Bus Assembly Plant in Flint, MI for over 30 years, retiring in 1994. Dale spent 18 joyful years post-retirement as a gentleman livestock broker in Lawley, Alabama and as a member of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association. Dale enjoyed caring for his Alabama ranch and the many flowers and fruit/nut trees that he grew. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lawley, Alabama. He loved spending time with his brothers in-law, friends and family. Dale and his wife were well known for their large family gatherings at their Alabama home, frequently hosting in excess of 20 people for meals and fellowship. Family will receive friends on Monday, December 9 from 11:30-12:30 at the Etowah Memorial Chapel in Sardis City, Alabama. A graveside funeral is planned at 1pm on Monday, December 9 at the Boaz-Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz, Alabama. Pastor Robert Gibson formerly from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Ernest Stamey will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Summerfield Township Fire Department (26 Saline St., PO Box 98, Petersburg MI 49270).
