Johnny Ray "John" Nunnelee Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Johnny Ray (John) Nunnelee, 73 passed away peacefully at his home in Southside on Saturday, July 16th with his wife of 53 years by his side after a brief illness. John was born on August 8th 1948 in San Francisco, California. He spent much of his childhood in Tyler, Texas and moved to Alabama in 1963. He was a 1966 graduate of Gadsden High School. After high school, he did an apprenticeship in tool and die making at Alabama Tool Company where he retired from in 1983. He started his own business in the marine products industry in 1977 and later started an injection molding business which he retired from in 2005. He was honored to be a recipient of the Etowah County Chamber of Commerce Small Businessman Of The Year. He enjoyed collecting Lionel train sets. He was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and enjoyed NASCAR racing. Mr. Nunnelee was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Mary McGraw, mother and father-in-law, Tom and Jessie Norton, and son, Stephen Nunnelee. He is survived by his wife, Carol. Son, Brian (Sonya) Nunnelee. Daughter Angela (Jason) Walker. Granddaughter, Addison Claire Nunnelee. Chosen son and daughter, David Vincent and Ami Hardy. The family would like to express thanks to Shane and Kristal Fail, Julie Bass, Dr. Barry Rayburn, Anna Garmon RN, Nurses on the 4th Tower South at St.Vincents Downtown Birmingham, Enhabit Hospice and Suzanne Smith, RN. Pallbearers will be : Danny Guest, Marc Fowler, Rusty Fowler, Johnny Harvey, Jeff Harvey, Brent Parker, Scott Whitt and Adam Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be David Vincent and Shane Fail. Services will be conducted by Etowah Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, July 19th with visitation from 11 am to 1 pm with funeral immediately following. Burial will be at Duck Springs Cemetery.
